Herning, a city with cultural and sports offers

Herning is a city in Denmark, in the central part of the Jutland Peninsula, in the Central Jutland region; the seat of Herning Municipality. It is one of the larger cities in the region. The city has Herning railway station. The city has its own television, radio and daily newspaper.

  • Herning Kunstmuseum / Herning Art Museum – in the Birk district, east of the city, it is located in a very special building in the shape of a cut ring. The museum has valuable collections of (mainly) Danish artists from the 20th century. I find works by Robert Jacobsen, Richard Mortensen, Piero Manzoni. The museum is known for organizing many art exhibitions from all over the world. The founder and patron of this museum was the manufacturer Aage Damgaard, owner of textile factories in Herning.
  • Carl-Henning Pedersen og Else Alfelts Museum / Carl-Henning Pedersen and Else Alfelt Museum – in the Birk district, east of the city, houses works by these two painters, who belong to the Danish Cobra group. The exterior walls of the building are decorated with ceramic tiles with drawings by Carl-Henning Pedersen. Carl-Henning and Else were a married couple.
  • Herning Kirke / Main Church – in the city centre, built in 1889 in neo-Gothic style with Romanesque elements. The granite baptismal font comes from the old medieval church in Herning.
  • Torvet / Market Square – the oldest buildings, including the Eydes Hotel building from 1893 and the Hedebanken bank building from 1912, are located at the market square.
  • Herning Museum / Museum in Herning – Museumsgade 32, a local museum for Herning and the surrounding area and at the same time an open-air museum with live animals.
  • Danmarks Fotomuseum/Museum of Photography, on Museumsgade 28.
  • Den japanske Have / Japanese Garden – Bjødstrupvej 31 – a Japanese-style garden with miniature plants, sculptures, ponds, waterfalls, etc.
