Dornbirn is a district town in Austria, in the federal state of Vorarlberg, the seat of the Dornbirn district. According to the Austrian Statistical Office, it had 47,420 inhabitants (January 1, 2015). The city developed electrical, textile, and food industries. Dornbirn is a vibrant city with lots of green spaces, attractive shops and many tourist attractions. The largest city in Vorarlberg (45,000 inhabitants) is also home to a technical university and exhibition and economic centres.

- St. Martin’s Church, Marktplatz 1 The foundations date back to the 13th century. The current building was built in 1840 in the neoclassical style.

Founded in 1999, it houses over 1000 exhibits, including dozens of classic vehicles, in an area of around 3000m². The museum also organises special rides. €9 (adults), €4.50 (children 6-16), €10 (photography permit).

- Hiking. Most of the area around Dornbirn is mountainous. Well-developed trails offer numerous hiking opportunities, not only for short trips with children, but also for experienced climbers with a head for heights. Free hiking maps are available at the tourist information office, and an interactive map is available online.

- Wochenmarkt (Farmers Market), Marktplatz, +43 5572-306-7105. Wed 08:00-12:00. There are stalls selling everything you could possibly want; cheese and meat from small farms in the Bregenzerwald, socks, fresh bread, fruit and vegetables, organic cosmetics, flowers……. It’s nice to spend some time wandering around and if you buy something you can be sure it’s locally produced and therefore better for the regional economy.
