Hallerbos

Le Fondry des Chiens

Le Fondry des Chiens is a natural sinkhole. About twenty meters deep, it opens at ground level onto an open plateau, in the Viroin national nature reserve. The first views of the site look like an earth torn in two, and little by little the insides are revealed. This chasm is the result of chemical erosion of limestone by wind and water. The natural site appeared as it does today when men extracted the sands to exploit the iron ores trapped at the bottom of this cavity.
