Liberec is a Czech city with a rich history, modern architecture and beautiful landscapes. One of the most important monuments of the city is the majestic City Hall, a building in the neo-Renaissance style, which is a testimony to the wealth of the city at the turn of the 19th and 20th centuries.
And the beautiful landscape is provided by the Ještěd Mountain, with a unique television tower and a hotel at the top. Ještěd offers a breathtaking view of the surroundings, and access to the peak is provided by both a cable car and numerous hiking trails.
The zoo, which is the oldest in the Czech Republic, and the beautiful botanical garden with a unique collection of plants are also recommended for the whole family. In Liberec, there is the Babylon Center, an entertainment complex that offers a water park, an amusement park, a bowling alley, and other attractions that can be enjoyed regardless of the weather.
For visitors who appreciate culture, entertainment is provided by numerous museums, galleries and theaters, including the famous J.K. Tyl Theater, which is one of the oldest theaters in the Czech Republic. The city regularly organizes festivals and cultural events that attract visitors from all over the country and abroad.
Location
Liberec is located just a few kilometres from the border with Germany and is a city in northern Bohemia. Situated on the Lusatian Nisa, a famous winter sports resort situated at the foot of Ještěd.
Ještěd
Ještěd (1012 m above sea level) is a mountain in northern Bohemia, southwest of Liberec, the highest peak of the Ještěd-Kozak ridge. Here you will find several ways to have fun for children and adults. Nature trails, hiking trails, bike trips and easy walks.
At the top is a symbolic television transmitter in the style of technical architecture for this elevation, at the bottom of the transmitter there is a hotel and a restaurant. Cable cars lead to Ještěd, and on the slopes there is a ski resort.
Liberec Castle
Over the years, the castle has undergone several renovations inspired by various architectural styles. The last major reconstruction was carried out in 1785–86 in the spirit of classicism. The so-called New Castle was then renovated in the style of Romanticism in 1852–54. This renovation also created a four-sided tower.
From 1850, the premises were used for the needs of the district court, later the State Forests, and a university. The well-known company Skloexport also had its glass exhibition here.
The castle is currently not used and is only exceptionally accessible to the public.
The North Bohemian Museum
The North Bohemian Museum in Liberec is the oldest museum of industrial art in the Czech Republic. It was founded in 1873. From the very beginning, it was one of the important museums of international scale.
Within the institution, you will find rich collections from almost all fields of interest, both from various European countries and from the Far and Far East. Here you will find new exhibitions of arts and crafts and industry, to which one entire floor of the museum is dedicated.
Liberec City Hall
The majestic Liberec City Hall is one of the symbols of the city of Liberec. Liberec town hall is a Neo-Renaissance building, which was built from 1888 till 1893 by design of the Viennese architect, Franz Neumann, replacing earlier structures dating to 1602.
Regional Gallery in Liberec
Museum of Fine Arts Liberec was established in 1953 and has been housed in the former municipal spa building since 2014. The gallery curates collections of more than 21 000 works of art from the Czech Republic, Germany, Austria, France, the Netherlands and other European countries and is thus rightly known as the Museum of European Art. In the summer holidays there will also be special week-long photography studios for children.
Botanická zahrada Liberec – LK
The Botanical Garden has a wide range of exotic plant collections, including unique specimens: the oldest camellia in Europe and the longest growing bonsai in Europe. The garden’s domain is the collection of orchids, ferns, bromeliads and carnivorous plants. The aquarium pavilion is also part of the tradition. The park parts of the garden include the largest alpinum in the Czech Republic. The Liberec Botanical Garden takes care of the most diverse collections of exotic plants in the Czech Republic.
The greenhouse zone in the shape of plant cells consists of nine exhibition pavilions of various sizes, covering an area of approximately 3,000 square meters. The pavilions present 13 different botanical themes. The most attractive attraction for visitors is the giant Victoria water lily plant or orchids.
Babylon Centre Liberec
Centrum Babylon Liberec covers an area of 30 thousand m² and is the largest such complex and the largest water park in the Czech Republic.
Centrum Babylon Liberec is a wonderful entertainment and hotel complex that offers an indoor aqua park with a sauna world, an amusement park with plenty of entertainment, a large wellness center, a 3D cinema, a shopping center, restaurants, a pub, bowling and a conference center.

DinoPark Liberec
DinoPark is located on three floors of the Plaza Liberec Shopping Center. In DinoPark you can get acquainted with paleontologically accurate dinosaur models, information about individual dinosaur species, the development of life on Earth and the movement of continents in an attractive and entertaining way.
There is a refreshment option in DinoPark (DinoCafé, DinoGril). For smaller children there is a playground, the DinoTrek trail and the Children’s Paleontological Playground. The 4D cinema is included in the ticket price.
Zoo in Liberec
On an area of almost 13 ha, you can admire over 150 species of animals. The most interesting species bred include the hamadryas baboon, the Barbary lion, the red panda and of course the very popular white Bengal tiger.
The length of the ZOO tour route is approx. 1.7 km. In addition to animals, the zoo also offers relaxation areas, attractions for children, catering facilities, a souvenir shop and others. This ZOO is unique because it is one of the oldest in the Czech Republic.
