Gera: Gem of Turyngia

Location

The Schulenburg House is the most important Art Nouveau ensemble in the city of Gera. Paul Schulenburg, an industrialist and patron of the arts, commissioned Henry van de Velde to rebuild his villa. The Belgian architect also considered the interior and exterior design in his design.

The extensive permanent exhibition “Art Deco and Functionalism. Applied Art Between the World Wars” presents modernist porcelain, tableware, clothing, furniture, jewelry and graphics. Particular emphasis is placed on Bauhaus ceramics, the New Objectivity photography of Aenne Biermann, the works of architect and designer Thilo Schoder and modern ceramics.

Museum Burg Posterstein
