Hildesheim Cathedral


The Cathedral of Our Lady of the Assumption in Hildesheim was founded in 872. Almost completely rebuilt in the 1950s in the original Romanesque style, its walls and treasury are now a UNESCO World Heritage Site.
They were designed with a series of relief panels, establishing the sculptural tradition of historical narrative that distinguishes Romanesque doors and later bronze doors. Cathedral of the Blessed Virgin Mary and the church of St. Michael in Hildesheim are unique testimonies of the religious art of the Holy Roman Empire.
Hildesheim Cathedral Museum


The Hildesheim Cathedral Museum is the treasury and diocesan museum of Hildesheim, which illustrates over a thousand years of art and church history in Lower Saxony.
The museum hosts unique treasuries of the Church from the Late Antiquity to the present. Among them is a 1000 year old statue of the Madonna as well as a silver candlestick from the Early Middle Ages. The Treasury of the Cathedral is, together with the Cathedral itself and the St. Michael’s Church, listed as UNESCO World Heritage.
Historic Market Place Hildesheim


Hildesheim’s historic market square consists of beautiful historic buildings and was considered one of the most beautiful market squares in the world.
The most noteworthy buildings include the Gothic-style town hall from 1290, the Tempelhaus or Temple House, a late Gothic building from the 14th century that now houses a tourist information office, and the beautiful half-timbered Knochenhauer-Amtshaus built in 1529 and now housing a museum. This place sparkles and looks most beautiful during the Christmas market lasting from the last week of November until Christmas Eve.
Butchers’ Guild Hall


The Butchers’ Guild Hall is a half-timbered house in Hildesheim. Today, the reconstructed Butcher’s Guild Hall houses a restaurant and the City Museum. It is one of the most beautiful half-timbered houses. Built in 1529, it was destroyed by British bombing raids in 1945 during World War II. In 1989 it was reconstructed in detail. It is the largest open-air art gallery in Hildesheim.
Church of St. Michael in Hildesheim


Church of St. Michael was built between 1010 and 1020 on a symmetrical plan with two apses, which was typical of Ottonian Romanesque art in Old Saxony. Its interior, in particular the wooden ceiling and painted stucco, the famous bronze door and the Bernward bronze column, are – along with the treasures of St. Mary’s Cathedral – of exceptional interest as examples of Romanesque churches of the Holy Roman Empire.
Roemer and Pelizaeus Museum


The museum houses one of the world’s most important collections of ancient Egyptian culture. The treasures of the Old Kingdom from the time of the great pyramids are particularly famous.
The 9,000 objects from Egypt and Nubia represent the most important eras of ancient Egyptian culture from the predynastic to the Christian period, a period of over 4,000 years. These include impressive works of art, jewelry and papyri as well as coffins, tools and mummies.

Wildgatter Hildesheim


Wildgatter Hildesheim is located on the forested Steinberg mountain in the Ochtersum district of Hildesheim. Over 300 animals live here on an area of approximately 60,000 m². The support association is responsible for keeping and feeding the animals.
There is a small refuge for owls and birds of prey which, due to their injuries, would no longer survive in the wild, as well as an enclosure for wild cats. The experiential tour offers unforgettable animal interactions, fun stories and small games.
