Location
Oldenburg is a city in Lower Saxony (state), northwestern Germany. Situated at the junction of the Hunte River and the Küsten Canal, which connects the Hunte and Ems rivers, about 25 miles (40 km) west of Bremen.
Zwischenahner Meer Lake
The Zwischenahner Meer is located between the main town of Bad Zwischenahn in the south and the district of Dreibergen in the north. The lake is also known as the “Pearl of the Ammerland.” With a water surface area of 5.5 km² (550 hectares), the Zwischenahner Meer is the third largest inland lake in Lower Saxony after the Steinhuder Meer and the Dümmer.
Its north-south diameter is 2.8 kilometers, and its east-west diameter is approximately 2 kilometers. It has a circumference of 11 kilometers. The average water depth is 3.3 meters, and the deepest point above a layer of sludge is approximately 5.5 to 6.0 meters.
Oldenburg Palace
Oldenburg Castle is a beautiful palace located in the downtown area. It has a history dating back to the mid 1600’s when it was the residence for the counts of Oldenburg. In the late 1700’s until the early 1900’s, Oldenburg Castle was the main residence for the dukes and grand dukes. Today, one of the most striking features of this palace is the beautiful yellow exterior. There is also a State Museum within the palace.
Lappan
Lappan is a historical bell tower located in Oldenburg. Originally constructed in the 15th century, it is one of the few remaining parts of the medieval city fortifications. The tower stands at approximately 35 meters tall and is a notable example of Gothic architecture. Over the centuries, Lappan has served various purposes, including as a watchtower and a fire lookout. Today, it is a symbol of Oldenburg and a popular tourist attraction.
St. Lamberti-Kirche (St. Lamberti Church)
A magnificent example of architecture is the five-towered neo-Gothic Lamberti church with a brick facade. The interior, on the other hand, presents a classical style. The bell tower is 86 meters high and is the tallest building in the city. Built at the turn of the 12th and 13th centuries, the church of St. is the central church of the city and state of Oldenburg.

The historic Oldenburg Old Town offers the opportunity to visit the city’s charming monuments, from the famous Lappen Tower to the impressive old town hall. Oldenburg’s Lappan is located near the magnificent Oldenburg State Theatre, the old town hall and the lively market square. The State Museum for Nature and Man is a natural history, ethnology, and archaeology museum in the city of Oldenburg. Collection contains 450,000 objects of natural history, also extensive collections of archaeology (e. g. through many years of own excavations) and ethnology.
Stadtmuseum Oldenburg
The Oldenburg City Museum (SMO) is a museum dedicated to the local culture and history of the city. The SMO is currently closed. A new building is being built to house permanent and special exhibition spaces. The two founding villas of the ensemble, which have a unique historical exhibition, are currently being renovated. Conceptual work on permanent exhibitions, restructuring and development of the collections is in full swing.
OLantis Huntebad – ErlebnisWelt
The Olantis leisure pool in Oldenburg guarantees fun for young and old. The large pool is open all year round. During the outdoor pool season (summer), you can use the outdoor pool and the natural river pond.
There are three giant slides of varying difficulty, offering plenty of excitement before you can relax in the adventure pool or the outdoor pool. Competitors can also burn off energy in the 25-metre sports pool, and a training pool is available for courses. Younger bathers will find something for themselves in the children’s area. The large sauna area invites you to relax further.
