Portimão offers tourists paradise beaches that captivate with their beauty. The impressive coastline, golden sand, diverse rock formations, and crystal-clear waters make it a popular destination for tourists. Praia da Rocha is one of the most famous beaches in the Algarve. The nearby cliffs offer breathtaking views of the Atlantic, and numerous bars and restaurants are among its amenities.
Portimão is also home to historic architecture, including the impressive Ponte de Portimão bridge. Furthermore, the Portimão marina is a popular destination for sailors, and numerous cruises and excursions offer the opportunity to admire the coast from the sea. The Museu de Portimão is also worth visiting. It showcases both Portimão’s industrial past and local cultural traditions.

Location
Portimão is the largest city in the western Algarve region. Located in the estuary of the River Parade in Portugal.
Praia da Rocha

Praia da Rocha is a 1.5 km long sandy beach and is Portimão’s main beach! It offers fantastic sea views and a vibrant nightlife with bars, lounges, and clubs. The beach offers a wide range of activities for all ages and is undoubtedly one of the most beautiful in the Algarve. It gets very crowded in summer.
Praia dos Três Irmãos

Praia dos Três Irmãos is known for its stunning rock formations and golden sand. Its dramatic cliffs and caves create a unique landscape and a backdrop for stunning vacation photos. A wooden footbridge leads to the beach, and amenities include sun loungers and umbrellas. It’s a favorite spot for both relaxation and water sports enthusiasts, including swimming and snorkeling.
Praia do Vau

The cliffs surrounding the beach, especially João d’Arens, offer stunning views of the coast. Praia do Vau is an ideal spot for families with children due to its easy pedestrian access and safe play at low tide. Rock walls carved by erosion create nooks and crannies that delight swimmers.
Viewpoint of the Three Castles

In Portimão, a must-see is the Three Castles, offering a wealth of views, stunning landscapes, stunning beaches, turquoise waters, and stunning cliffs! Here, you can admire stunning sunsets, a lively promenade, and easily reach both Praia da Rocha and Three Castles Beach. Enjoy the tranquility and beautiful views.
Igreja de Nossa Senhora da Conceição

The Church of Our Lady of the Immaculate Conception was built in the early 18th century. The church now serves as the city’s cathedral. Inside, there’s an exuberant ceiling filled with angels, as well as several elaborately gilded altars. Unless there’s a mass in progress, the entrance is through the recently opened Diocesan Museum of Santarém.
Museu de Portimão

The Portimão Museum is housed in the former “Feu Hermanos” cannery, dating back to the late 19th century. Today, the modern museum focuses on three areas: archaeology, underwater finds, and, most fascinatingly, a reconstruction of a fish cannery (mackerel and sardines).
Visitors can see the former production lines, complete with sound effects—clinking, grinding, and the like. An excellent film shows every step of the process, from the casting of nets over schools of fish to the packaging.
Fortaleza de Santa Catarina

The Santa Catarina de Ribamar Fortress overlooks Praia da Rocha. Built by King João de Castro in the 16th century to prevent pirates and raiders from sailing down the Arade River to Portimão, this fort is now one of the most magnificent in the Algarve. It is a rectangular building with a tower at each corner. It is located opposite the São João de Ferragudo Fort.
Today, the fort houses a café and hosts live entertainment. It is worth visiting, if only to admire the stunning views from the Santa Catarina viewpoint or to visit the small chapel of Santa Catarina de Alexandria.
Fort of São João do Arade

Fort São João do Arade is a beautiful stone castle perched atop a hill between Angrinha and Grande beaches, overlooking the cool, blue waters of the Atlantic Ocean. Located in the town of Lagoa, it was built around 1520 in the Baroque style. It is currently owned by the Portuguese government and managed by the renowned Instituto Gestão do Patrimonio Arquitectónico e Arqueológico.
Alcalar Megalithic Site

Megalithic Monuments of Alcalar is an ancient site, believed to have housed a prehistoric community over 5,000 years ago. There is a small exhibition at the interpretation center and a short documentary to watch before you enter the ruins.
Alto Golf Course

The Alto course is considered a good test of golfer’s skill, with strategically placed bunkers, doglegs, raised greens, and well-placed trees. Another notable challenge is the par-5 16th hole, which is considered one of the longest in Europe.
Parque da Juventude

The approximately 15,000-square-meter green space underwent a “profound” renovation, making it more “attractive” and featuring new areas for leisure and informal sports, accessible to all residents. The south and north entrances, the existing playground at the north entrance, the cafeteria, restrooms, and the lake, which will now feature a deck and water purification plants, were also renovated.
