Empoli it’s a town in Toscana, north-central Italy, on the lower Arno River.

Collegiata Sant’Andrea Empoli

The Collegiate Church of Sant’Andrea is the most important place of Catholic worship in Empoli, belonging to the Province and Archdiocese of Florence. The church dominates the main square of the historic center of Empoli and is the most recognizable symbol of the town.

Piazza della Vittoria

The square opens just outside the ancient perimeter of the sixteenth-century city walls, where Porta Fiorentina stood, proving to be one of the main points of social aggregation of Empoli. The square takes its name from the bronze statue of the goddess Vittoria that dominates it from a high base in Siena travertine worked in relief. The monument was erected in memory of the soldiers fallen during the First World War.

Museum of Glass

The Empoli Glass Museum documents the historical glass-making activity in Empoli and its impact on the city. The first rooms exhibit working tools, glasses, bottles and everyday objects that can be found in the homes of many visitors. The rooms on the first floor house precious “artistic” glass, green, colored and transparent, produced in the 20th century, which is one of the most original expressions of local and national crafts.

The Empoli Glass Museum also hosts temporary exhibitions, performances and concerts. On the first Sunday of each month, guided tours and workshops for children are organized (booking required).

House of Pontormo

The Pontormo House in Pontorme (now a museum) is the birthplace and youthful home of the famous Italian painter, Jacopo Carucci, known as Il Pontormo (1494-1557). Located in the tiny village, the Pontormo House is now a museum presenting Pontormo’s life and art through multimedia installations and exhibits, including preparatory drawings and the painter’s diary.

Parco di Serravalle

To relax from the city life, it is worth going to Serravalle Park. There is a picnic area equipped with tables, benches and games for children. The perfect place to spend a few days outdoors, without having to go far from the city. A place recommended for everyone. The park is located near the Castellani Stadium and the Municipal Swimming Pool.

Stadio Carlo Castellani

Stadio Carlo Castellani was built between 1963 and 1965. It is a multipurpose soccer stadium located in Empoli and is currently the home stadium of Empoli FC, an Italian professional soccer club. It was named after Carlo Castellani, a player born in nearby Monterupo Fiorentino who died in the Mauthausen concentration camp during World War II.
