Viking Ship Museum in Roskilde


The Viking Ship Museum in Roskilde is national museum of Denmark for ships, seafaring and boatbuilding in the prehistoric and medieval period. Get right up-close to the Vikings and their fascinating ships. Visitors of all ages can enjoy a fun and educational day here.
The museum has 5 original Viking ships – 2 longships, 2 merchant ships and 1 fishing vessel. It is also worth paying attention to the tools used by the Vikings. Dress up as a real Viking and board the Viking ship at the pier. Visit the Viking Ship Hall and try your hand at writing runes. The museum shop sells Nordic products and if you feel like it, try Nordic cuisine at “Snekken”.
Roskilde Cathedral


The Roskilde Cathedral is a magnificent church and an architectural masterpiece. Explore 1,000 years of Danish history here under beautifully decorated vaults and dark crypts.
The UNESCO World Heritage site of Roskilde Cathedral is one of the world’s oldest brick Gothic cathedrals, and is famous as the burial place for almost every Danish king and queen for the last 500 years.
The Roskilde Jars

The Roskilde Jars stand on the square outside the railway station in Roskilde. The three huge jars are 5 m in height and together weigh about 24 tons. At first the look like they are covered in graffiti, but they are inscribed with the names of all who took part in their production, including the names of all members of Stryhn’s Leverpostej, the company that presented the jars to commemorate Roskilde’s 1000-year jubilee in 1998.
Lykkens galocher H.C. Andersen – “The Galoshes of Fortune”

Of note is the bronze statue “The Galoshes of Fortune”, inspired by a set of time-traveling shoes that have a connection to the folk tale of Hans Christian Andersen’s “Seven Mile Shoes”.
City Hall

Roskilde’s former town hall, a 19th-century Neo-Gothic structure, incorporates the historic tower from the 12th-century St. Lawrence Church, the only surviving part after the church’s destruction during the Reformation. Today, the building serves various administrative and cultural purposes, blending medieval history with 19th-century architecture.

The city museum presents history from prehistoric times to modern times. All exhibitions are in Danish and English. Roskilde Museum has been a municipal museum since 1929 and tells the history of one of the oldest and most important cities in Denmark and the surrounding area. The museum is housed in two unique, protected, historic buildings.

Ragnarock is a museum of pop, rock and youth culture. The designed golden building is amazing! It presents the history of music through objects, sound and image. You can enjoy a tour of the permanent exhibition and changing special exhibitions.
The 3,100 m2 building, equipped with colossal cantilevers, houses the main museum facilities, including the auditorium, administrative rooms and a bar.
