Saarbrücken is a charming town on the banks of the Saar River. It attracts tourists with a combination of history, culture and beautiful nature. Saarbrücken Castle


Saarbrücken Castle in its current form was preceded by a medieval castle and a Renaissance palace. Today, Saarbrücken Castle serves as the administrative centre of the Saarbrücken Regional Association. The vaulted cellar also houses exhibition rooms of the Saar Historical Museum, the museum in the castle church and a restaurant.
Ludwigskirche zu Alt-Saarbrücken (Ludwigskirche Church)


The church was built in the years 1762-1775 in the image of the castle in Saarbrücken. As one of the most famous Baroque churches in the country, it is the core of the architecture of the “Royal Square”.
The Ludwigskirche is a Protestant church in the baroque style. It is the city’s landmark and, alongside Dresden’s Frauenkirche and Hamburg’s “Michel”, is considered one of the most important Protestant baroque church buildings in Germany. Together with Ludwigsplatz, the surrounding palaces and officials’ houses, the Ludwigskirche forms a unique Baroque ensemble. The entire complex was rebuilt after World War II.

The Saar Historical Museum, located at the Saarbrücken Castle Square, is dedicated to the history of Saarland. Ironworks in Völklingen

The Volklingen ironworks in Saarland was the first heavy industrial monument to be inscribed on the UNESCO World Heritage List. Founded in 1873 by Julius Buch, it was expanded at the beginning of the 20th century by the Röchling family to modernize production. The ironworks was closed, but remains a cultural monument.

With performances at the highest level, the Saarland State Theater is one of the outstanding cultural institutions in Saarland. The Theater is located in the center of Saarbrücken. Performances in the areas of opera, operetta, musicals, plays and ballet take place on the stage of the State Theater, as well as special concerts and guest performances.
