The Best Attractions Thassos Island

Thassos is a true pearl of the Aegean Sea and one of the greenest islands with an almost ideal climate of hot summers and cool winters with a little wind and rain. Laguna Giola is the main attraction of the island and is a natural pool between the rocks in which visitors love to swim and the view of this natural wonder is incredible!

Saliara Beach is known for its striking white rocks and sand, beautiful views and many tourists like to visit it. The beach is characterized by turquoise clear water and white pebbles, which is a picturesque setting for visitors. It is especially loved for its snorkeling opportunities.

 Monastery of Saint Archangel Michael

The monastery of Archangel Michael is located in the south eastern part of Thassos. It is built on a cliff above the sea surface with a view of the Aegean Sea and Athos(Agio Oros). It is a nunnery depended spiritually on the monastery of Philotheos in Athos(Agio Oros). In the holy monastic community it is treasured a piece of the Holy Nail, part of the nails of the Crucifixion of Christ.

Archaeological Site 

Alyki Thassos is an archaeological site located in the southeast of Thassos, 32 kilometers from Limenas. Alykes, a peninsula of archaeological importance, is home to an old marble quarry. Located in the southeast of Thassos, this town is full of ancient ruins and breathtaking landscapes. From stunning sunsets to mesmerizing temples and gigantic walled complexes from bygone eras, Alyki Thassos attracts history lovers.


Cave of Pan

The Cave of Pan is located in the area of the ancient town of Thassos. It is a small cave with a carved depiction of God Pan. Deep inside Pan’s cave, archeologists found a relief of a naked Pan – along with a dog – chiseled in the rock. The site is on the foothills of Areopagus Hill, not far from the pedestrian street of Apostolou Pavlou.

Tarsanas

In the harbor of Skala Potamias, you will find a quaint stone building, known as “Tarsana”. The boatyard was a fishing shelter the monks of Mount Athos and it now hosts cultural events.
