Meteory


Meteora, Greece, is a spectacular site located in the Thessaly region. Rising to a height of up to 400 meters, these rock formations were formed approximately 60 million years ago and are the result of erosion. They are even more unique due to the monasteries that seem to perch on their summits; it is said that the monasteries are situated between heaven and earth.
In the 14th century, the monk Athanasius Meteorites founded the first monastery, Great Meteora, which initiated the construction of further monasteries on difficult-to-access peaks. At its peak, there were as many as 24 monasteries, six of which survive to this day. Listed as a UNESCO World Heritage Site, the Orthodox monasteries are not only places of prayer but also among the most important historical monuments in Greece.
Asclepius Statue

The Asclepieion, devoted to the God Asclepius, was the place where people from all over Greece used to look for healing treatments in antiquity.
Asclepius was said to have been such a skilled doctor that he could even raise people from the dead. His legendary healing powers would bring pilgrims flocking to temples built in his honor in order to seek spiritual and physical healing.
Twin Ottoman Bath


The twin Ottoman baths in Trikala are located on the ground floor of the former prison building, below the Vasilis Tsitsanis Museum.Of the three baths recorded in Trikala in the 17th century, only one is described as a double bath, used by both men and women.
The Ephorate renovated the ground floor baths, while the Municipality of Trikala renovated the upper floor baths. The renovations were completed in 2015. Nearby are the Ottoman Osman Şȃha Mosque (16th century) and the 19th century Church of Saint Constantine.
Matsopoulos Mill

Tsitsanis Museum


The Tsitsanis Museum is dedicated to the life and work of the great Greek composer , lyricist and bouzouki player Vassilis Tsitsanis. Tsitsanis is widely recognized as one of the founders of the post-war Greek music genres of rebetiko and laïko, with over 500 compositions to his credit. Since 2003, rebetiko has been on UNESCO’s Intangible Cultural Heritage List.
The museum’s exhibits include the author’s biography, photographs, musical instruments, personal items, and extensive audiovisual material from his life and work, as well as CDs with original versions of his compositions.
