Vejle: Picturesquely Located By The Fjord

Bølgen (Danish “Wave”) is a modern complex of residential buildings on the Skyttehus Bay in Vejle. It is an iconic, award-winning landmark and distinctive, modern wave-shaped design by Henning Larsen Architects, inspired by the Sydney Opera House. The company was inspired by a 150,000-square-foot apartment complex located in the area’s hilly landscape.

Fjordenhaus

Fjordenhus has an unusual location for an office building. The building rises from the waters of the Vejle Fjord and is a compact, almost castle-like brick island, connected to the mainland by a slender bridge. The upper levels of the building serve as the headquarters of the Danish holding and investment company Kirk Kapital, while the ground floor serves as a generous public space square on the water’s edge.

Vejle Vindmølle

Vejle Windmill – On the hill south of Vejle is the Vejle Windmill. The current building dates from 1890 and its fixtures date from the 1930s. It functioned as a mill until 1960. Here there is an exhibition about mill operation and mills on the Vejleegnen area. From the circular passage of the mill, there is an impressive view of Vejle town, Grejsdalen, Vejle Fjord and Vejle Ådal.

Kongernes Jelling

The Jelling Monuments in South Jutland was the first Danish site that was included on the Danish Unesco Heritage List because the site has a very important historical value. The monuments consist of two runic stones, a church and the two largest mounds known from the Nordic Viking period.

The rune stones are unique in the Nordic context. The two rune stones have different stories, are from the tenth century, and are placed in the small town of Jelling west of Vejle.

Vejle Art Museum

The Vejle Kunstmuseum (Art Museum) is collection of thousands of sculptures and paintings are showcased here at the museum. Some of the artists whose artworks are showcased here are Rembrandt, Andrea Mantegna and Albrecht Dürer. This museum complex is set in several buildings, with the original museum dating back to 1923, the library that was built in 1934 and a fairly new structure for exhibitions.

The Spindhalern Culture Museum – among the exhibits distributed throughout are: photographs, paintings, skeletons, some copper pieces, and many other collectibles that tell a lot about the history of Danish culture and distinctive civilization.
