Provence is a historical land located in southeastern France, on the Mediterranean Sea. This region includes not only large cities but also small towns and villages. The small towns here are beautiful and really interesting.

Roussillon

Roussillon
Among the most beautiful towns in Provence, we certainly stand out – Roussillon. The city is located in an extremely picturesque setting on the top of a red cliff, which is one of the largest deposits of ocher in the world (a rock used as a natural dye). Red, yellow and brown earth tones contrast perfectly with the blue sky and lush green forests. The town is charming.

Sisteron

Sisteron
It is worth paying attention to the town of Sisteron. Situated on the banks of the Durance River, it is also called the “gate of Provence”. It is squeezed into a narrow gap between two long mountain ridges. On one side of the city there are fantastic views of the Alps, on the other of Provence.
The most important monuments in the city include the Citadel, the 12th-century Cathedral of Notre Dame des Pommiers et-Saint Thyrse and the clock tower.

Moustiers-Sainte-Marie

Moustiers-Sainte-Marie
Moustiers-Sainte-Marie is a charming Provençal town at the mouth of the Verdon Gorge. It has well-preserved old buildings and a unique location at the foot of a rugged rock, as well as access to the beaches on Lake Saint-Croix.
In the center of the town, the most important building is the Church of Our Lady of the Assumption with a Romanesque structure. It is surrounded by old stone buildings and narrow streets, now full of restaurants and souvenir shops.

Rougon

Verdog Gorge Near Rougon
Rougon is a small and very isolated village sitting on a plateau high above the upper Verdon Gorge. In a beautiful setting and with great views, Rougon is home to a large colony of vultures, nesting on the cliffs nearby.
Verdog Gorge – The infrastructure built around this natural wonder allows virtually everyone to enjoy a breathtaking view that reflects the true power of nature. It is here that the flowing river has carved a long gorge in the rocks surrounding it, which is almost 1 kilometer high at its deepest point. Today, it is an extremely magical tourist place, attracting hundreds of mountaineers from all over, lovers of extreme sports and lovers of water cruises.

Simiane-La-Rotonde

Simiane-La-Rotonde

Castle Of Simiane-La-Rotonde
I encourage you to go to a tiny Provençal village surrounded by lavender fields. This is the village of Simiane-la-Rotonde. It used to be a wealthy settlement, and today it is a bit forgotten by tourists, but still quite a charming place.
The town, or rather the village, is inhabited by less than 600 people, and the main attraction is the rotunda (donjon), which Simiane even has in its name.

Gordes

Gordes, Village
The beautiful Provençal town of Gordes on a hill visited by probably all tourists in the region. The main attractions here are the views of the surrounding area, as well as the stone streets and houses.

Sault

Sault
Sault is a town interestingly situated among rocks, forests and lavender fields, on the top of a mountain overlooking the Nesque Valley, approximately 40 km east of Carpentras and 20 km north-west of Simiane-la-Rotonde. This area of Provence is famous for its nougat and lavender honey. You can also take interesting trips to the area of Mont Ventoux and the Lure and Baronnies mountain ranges.
So… I invite you to explore the extraordinary corners of Provence. The natural landscape here is unique, and the magic of history is reflected in the local buildings.
