Djion – “City of a Hundred Bell Towers”

Dijon is a city known mainly for its mustard and autumn gastronomic fairs. In this place, a special technology for creating Dijon mustard was created. This mixture has a spicy and salty taste and a creamy texture. It is a famous city and commune in France, in the Burgundy-Franche-Comté region, in the Côte-d’Or department.

Place François Rude, Dijon, Côte d´Or, Burgundy, France

Surrounded by beautiful tenement houses with fancy faces, with a fountain, with a carousel – François Rudere Square. Eiffel productions are the epicenter of fairy tales. It’s the perfect place to grab a coffee at an outdoor table and explore the amazing city.

Cathedral Saint-Bénigne

Dijon is called the “City of a Hundred Bell Towers” because of the many churches that have survived time:

1. Cathedral Saint-Bénigne , place saint-bénigne 13th-century. Gothic church dedicated to Saint. Bengina of Dijon.

2. Church of Notre-Dame, place Notre-Dame Considered a masterpiece of Gothic architecture from the 13th century, it is distinguished by its gargoyles, the wooden statue of Our Lady of Good Hope, stained glass windows and Jacquemart.

3. Church of St. Michael’s. There is a chapel containing the relics of Blessed Elizabeth of the Holy Trinity, a resident of Dijon who spent her childhood in the area before entering the Carmelite convent of Flavignerot (near Dijon)

4. Church of Saint Bernadette, avenue des Grésilles (tram stop: Grésilles). A church from the 1960s, included in the list of monuments and recognized by the Minister of Culture as “Heritage of the 20th century”.

5. Synagogue, rue de la Synagogue. This building, designed by the architect Alfred Sirodot, dates back to the late 19th century.

6. Protestant temple, boulevard de Brosses.

7. Orthodox Church.

Another important symbol are owls: We can go for a walk in the footsteps of 22 owls located in the old town. A walk along the street of owls (la rue de la Chouette) is truly magical. The owl images are placed in many places and I had a lot of fun finding them. However, there is one owl more important than all the others. Do you want to be lucky? Then you have to touch the owl of Notre Dame with your left hand! – This is the fortune telling here.

Nothing can say as much about a city as its market! The market in Dijon, i.e. Les Halles de Dijon is located in a stylish pavilion. It’s really impressive! You must know that the Dijon Market is considered one of the best in all of France. And he actually is. It takes place 4 times a week. Always in the morning on Tuesdays, Thursdays, Fridays and Saturdays. It consists of 4, with a total of 246 stands. This is a good place for brunch, the tables are spread out and you can eat comfortably. Here we will taste local dishes, wines, baked goods and more.

Dijon is an extraordinary place, full of symbols. Historic buildings attract tourists with their unusual architecture. Let’s not forget about delicious, good quality food products.
