Tuamotu islands – The groups and chains include 78 coral atolls and islands, the main islands:
- Rangiroa, the third largest atoll in the world in terms of area – after Kiritimati Atoll in Kiribati and Aldabra in the Seychelles,
- Tikehau,
- Manihi, the place where black pearls are mined,
- Fangataufa and Mururoa, site of 193 French nuclear weapons tests between 1966 and 1996.
