The Kiellinie is a promenade in the Kiel districts of Düsternbrook and Wik. The Kiellinie begins at the Seeburg behind the Ostseekai. It is lined on the land side by a row of boathouses belonging to rowing clubs, canoeists and sailors, the Helmholtz Center for Ocean Research and the Kiel Institute for the World Economy.
The waterfront promenade is particularly popular with locals and guests because of the hustle and bustle, especially during Kiel Week, the unobstructed view of incoming cruise ships and the very good view of the eastern shore with the shipyards of the German Naval Yards and ThyssenKrupp Marine Systems, the former Howaldtswerke-Deutsche Werft, and their large gantry cranes, which are considered Kiel’s landmark.
Kiel Castle

Kiel Castle is a green area north of Kiel Castle, which was created as a Renaissance garden in the 16th century. The castle garden, with an area of approximately 30,000 square meters, was first established in 1558-1568 during the renovation of the castle and over the centuries it was rebuilt several times or even neglected due to lack of maintenance.
Transformed into a magnificent Baroque garden in 1695, Kiel Castle Garden was rebuilt into an English landscape garden in the 19th century. The castle has had a varied architectural history and has been described in recent art history as one of the most important secular buildings in Schleswig-Holstein. demolished and replaced with a new building.
Botanical Garden

The Old Botanical Garden on the Kiel Fjord, was laid out on a 2.5 hectare hilly terminal moraine area of an older landscape park. The Botanical Garden of Kiel opened its gates to the public in 1985 but is also an academic facility of the Christian-Albrechts-University. In the outside area of 8 ha as well as in seven big greenhouses, it offers a representative cross section of the flora of each continent. The Botanical Garden is ideal for plant lovers or a short vacation from everyday life. Open daily: 9:30am – 6pm.
Hörn bridge

The Hörn Bridge is a folding bridge in the city of Kiel in the German state of Schleswig-Holstein. The bridge spans the end of the Kiel Fjord and was designed by Gerkan, Marg and Partners.
The double element bascule or folding bridge is a common technical feature of the ship building industry. This new further development of a three element bridge creates a strong maritime inspired symbol for the citizens. Architecture, engineering and kinetic art enter into a new, evident and simultaneously effective fusion.

Art gallery in Kiel is museum for European art from the Renaissance to the present day, with painting, sculpture & video. Sculptures is impressive, though not the most rare and original.
The Kunsthalle zu Kiel is the largest museum in the city of Kiel. The collection includes more than 1,200 paintings and 300 sculptures, including works by Emil Nolde, Georg Baselitz, Neo Rauch and Gerhard Richter. The graphic collection is also very rich: it includes around 30,000 works, including autographed drawings by Rembrandt, Adolf Menzel and Otto Dix. Christian-Albrecht University of Kiel

Christian-Albrecht University Kiel (CAU) is a public university founded in 1665. CAU is the largest and oldest university in the state of Schleswig-Holstein. Elite Nobel Prize winners worked here. Since 2006, CAU has participated in the Excellence Initiative.
