Skiathos: Wonderful Island Of The Aegean Sea

Skiathos is a small Greek island, located in the Northern Sporades archipelago, in the western part of the Aegean Sea. Its area is 48 km2. The capital of the island is the port town of the same name – Skiathos (Chora). Small fishing boats, private yachts and large cruise ships moor there all year round. The city is situated on two hills with small churches on them. On one of them, a clock tower with a viewing point was also built, from which you can admire the wonderful panorama of paradise. The beaches on the island are the main attraction; crystal clear, azure waters surrounded by pine-covered hills and shores of golden sand or shiny pebbles. The island has both organized and unorganized beaches to suit the needs of all visitors.

Location

The Greek island of Skiathos is located east of the Greek mainland in the Aegean Sea and belongs to the Northern Sporades (it is closest to the mainland). The neighboring islands are Alonissos and Skopelos.

Skiathos Town (Chora)

The only village on the island is Skiathos Town, serving as its capital and main port. Also, boats and water taxis depart from its port and head to several beaches around the island.

Koukounaries

Koukounaries is located on the southwestern part of the island of Skiathos. At Koukounaries there is a lagoon and a forested peninsula with a pine forest (Pinus pinea) separating the lagoon from the Aegean Sea. On the sea side of the peninsula there is the popular Koukounaries beach, perfect for lazy water sports enthusiasts and water sports enthusiasts.

Vromolimnos

Vromolimnos is located on the south coast of Skiathos and very close to Villa Christina. It is a wonderful bay with calm, clear water and fine sand. Vromolimnos is considered the one od most popular beaches after Koukounaries due to amenities such as umbrellas and sunbathing.

Kolios

On the southern coast of Skiathos, between Platanias and Vromolimnos, is the Kolios region. It is a perfect place to spend your holiday and discover the natural beauty of the island; it is popular not only for its golden sand and crystal water, but also for its water sports centers and the various amenities it provides, such as sun terraces and umbrellas.

 Troulos

Troulos on the south coast of the greek island of Skiathos. It’s a village, rather it is a hamlet that bears the name of the beach. Troulos literally means “dome”. At the beach stands the ancient church of Agia Sofia, which has a dome. Through this dome the beach finally got the name Troulos.

Like the other beaches of southern Skiathos, Troulos also has a sandy beach and is surrounded by a lot of olive trees and tall pines. On the beach are several restaurants and beach bars. All sorts of water sports such as canoeing and water skiing are available. The beach is very well cared for and there are sunbeds and umbrellas for rent.
