Pesaro: Seaside Resort And Historical Center

A pretty seaside resort with a charming historical center, it was founded in 184 BC. The city offers beautiful architectural monuments – a 15th century palace, a Romanesque cathedral, a Baroque temple and others. This is the birthplace of the composer Gioachino Rossini (1792), and there is a museum with manuscripts, portraits and other attractions. An opera festival is held here every year in honor of the famous singer. There is a promenade along the sea with modern hotels, the main advantage is the location right next to the beach. The Villino Ruggeri is one of the most extraordinary examples of Art Nouveau architecture in Italy, built between 1902 and 1907 by Oreste Ruggeri, a dynamic pharmaceutical and ceramic industrialist. Born in Urbino, he moved to Pesaro after the great success of his products, especially the ‘glomeruli’ against anemia, presented with an innovative advertising campaign.

Built as the Teatro Nuovo, it was inaugurated on June 10, 1818, with a performance of Gioacchino Rossini’s La gazza ladra conducted by the composer in the city of his birth. The auditorium, designed in a classic horseshoe shape with four levels of boxes and a gallery, seats 860 people.

The Palazzo Ducale di Pesaro or Ducal Palace of Pesaro is a Renaissance-style palace in the city center of Pesaro.The initial structure at the site upon which this palace was built was likely commissioned by the Malatesta, sometime between 1285 and 1429. The present palace was commissioned in the 15th century by Alessandro Sforza, and held by the Della Rovere family till 1631.
