Hello my travelers. In our trip around Italy, it was time to visit the interesting city of Trieste.
Trieste is a port city in northeastern Italy. The local region is rich in tourist attractions. Nearby there are rocky coves, caves that can be visited, historic towns, and a little further, sandy beaches.
The city of Trieste and its rich history and unique location have made it one of the most important destinations for coffee lovers around the world.
Trieste is a city famous for coffee, the most recognizable are Illy coffee, and the Hausbrandt brand. The oldest café in the city is Caffé Tommaseo, which opened in 1825.
The city has numerous cafes with a long tradition that attract both residents and tourists. Some of the cafes have been operating for over a hundred years, offering classic Italian espresso in historic, beautiful and dignified interiors. Some of them combine tradition with modernity, but there are also modern cafes that experiment with various methods of brewing and serving coffee.
What is worth seeing in Trieste?
Castello di Miramare, Near Trieste
First of all, let’s pay attention to the beautiful, fabulous Miramare Castle located on the seashore. West of Trieste, near the coastal town of Barcola. The high rocky coast gives the castle its charm.
The palace, built between 1856 and 1870, is the fulfillment of the dreams of Archduke Maximilian Habsburg, who, however, was not able to enjoy his dream estate for long. In 1867, after assuming the throne of the Mexican Empire, the Archduke was shot by Mexican opponents of Napoleon III.
Piazza Unità d’Italia, Trieste
Then, it is worth seeing the main square in Trieste – Piazza Unità d’Italia. Situated at the foot of the hill with the San Giusto Castle, the square overlooks the Adriatic Sea.
Audace Pier, Trieste
The symbol of the city of Trieste, the so-called The Audace Pier is located a short walk from Piazza Unita d’Italia and is impossible to miss, considering its length of 246 m.
From the pier you can admire the wonderful panorama of the city. Audace Pier – Currently, the pier does not function as a port. in the southern part of the waterfront there is a huge, industrial port. Only small, local boats arrive at Audace Pier.
Teatro Romano, Trieste
As in other Italian cities, you can find traces of the Romans in Trieste. We are talking about the Roman Theater in Trieste, which is located at the foot of the San Giusto Hill, on the edge of the old town.
It is estimated that between 3,500 and 6,000 spectators could have gathered here. The construction of the theater dates back to the end of the 1st century BC. and expansion at the beginning of the 2nd century AD.
La Lanterna Beach, Trieste
La Lanterna Beach – In the very center of the city you can use the La Lanterna swimming area. It is a very interesting beach. There are actually two separate bathing areas, separated by a wall facing the sea. One part is only for women and children up to 12 years of age, while the other part is only for men.
Nevertheless, the swimming area is very popular, which makes it difficult to find a space on sunny days. The beach is separated by a 3-meter wall which, in the water, turns into a partition with buoys.
Piazza della Borsa, Trieste
Piazza della Borsa – another important square in the city, in the 19th century it was the city’s main shopping center. The main building located within the square is the Stock Exchange, built in 1806.
The buildings around the square house the headquarters of banks and other financial institutions. The square is decorated with numerous cafes located there. This is a must-see during your stay in Trieste.
To sum up, Trieste is a city full of monuments, interesting places and sandy beaches. And you must try original Italian coffee. So it’s worth coming here for a vacation!
