Fredrikstad: Gamlebyen – History, Sightseeing

Fredrikstad Bridge

The Fredrikstad Bridge is an arch bridge in the Norwegian city of Fredrikstad. It crosses the river Glomma, and connects the western and eastern parts of the city. The bridge is 824 metres long, with a main span of 196 metres. The sailing height is 39,5 metres. The bridge was opened August 18, 1957, by the then crown prince Olav.

Isegran Fortress 

Isegran Fort in Fredrikstad, is first mentioned in the Annals of Gottskalk from 1287. First built in the 13th century by Alv Erlingsson, Earl of Borgarsyssel, no taces of the original fortress remain. The fort was restored in the 17th century.

Old Town – Gamlebyen

Here you can get up close to the objects and immerse yourself in the history and people. On the Timeline you can learn about the city’s history through a chronological exhibition presenting objects from the city’s long history, linked by texts about the people who lived here.

Båthuset Scene is a concert stage located on the river in Fredrikstad, offering concerts and a range of cultural events and shows for residents and visitors of the city.
