- Preus Museum, the National Museum of Photography in Horten. The Preus Museum displays an extensive collection of photographic equipment, photographs and historical artefacts in a renovated naval facility in Karljohansvern. The institution began as a private collection of Leif Preus and members of his family in 1976, before the Norwegian government took it over in 1995. The museum has two exhibition galleries, presenting both early technical experiments and contemporary photographic works by national and international artists. Admission to the museum costs NOK 100 for adults, NOK 70 for students and seniors, while children under 18 are free. The museum building was originally used as a grain warehouse for the Royal Norwegian Navy in the 1860s before being rebuilt by architect Sverre Fehn.

- Horten Car Museum. The Horten Bilmuseum opened in 1984 in a basement on Sollistrand in Horten, where a brewery used to be. A grand parade of vintage cars was organized on the opening day. The collection of dozens of owned and borrowed vehicles on display covered the period from 1904 to 1973. The most famous car in the collection was a 1939 Buick, also known as the “Liberation Car” – the car in which the then Crown Prince Olaf drove through the streets of Oslo on May 14, 1945, and the rest of the royal family on June 7. The oldest vehicle on display was a De Dion-Bouton. The cars on display ranged from classic small cars such as the DAF 33 and Fiat 500 to the Porsche 356 and Ferrari 246 GT. Among the more interesting cars were a Sabra from Israel and a Jaguar E-type. Every now and then, some of the vehicles on display were changed to other ones, as I could see myself when I visited the museum twice within a few years. On 24 square meters there was a model railway, one of the largest in Norway. The museum closed in 2018.
