Lanzarote: Tourist wealth of nature

Lanzarote is the volcanic island hides many interesting and attractive places that are a must-see. Holiday atmosphere with volcanic landscapes, hot beaches, a fantastic cactus garden and amazing sea creatures. Holidays here will be amazing!

Lanzarote is a Spanish island located in the Atlantic Ocean, part of the Canary Islands archipelago. It is located near the northwestern coast of Africa. Together with the entire archipelago, it is included in Macaronesia.

Jameos del Agua Caves

The Jameos del Agua Caves in Lanzarote, which connect almost the entire island, were created as a result of the huge eruption of the La Corona volcano. The eruption occurred about five thousand years ago and was so powerful that it turned almost the entire island into a bubbling mountain of lava.

During the eruption, the lava leaking from the huge crater hardened in an extremely spectacular way, creating one of the longest volcanic tunnels in the world. This tunnel became the basis of the underground trail, which was opened to tourists several years ago. A large part of the caves are below sea level and are flooded with water, and the part of the tunnel that is available to tourists today is only a fraction of the entire rock complex.

Cactus Garden

Jardin de Cactus is an artistically designed circular crater, a hole in the ground, where you can admire various species of cacti. Some are really tiny, measuring only 2 centimeters, but there are also some over 20 meters tall, which seem to make a great impression on most tourists. They are planted at different heights on stone terraces that climb upwards. Their different shapes, colors and spikes make it difficult to take your eyes off each of them.

Timanfaya National Park

Timanfaya National Park (Montañas del Fuego, or “Mountains of Fire”) is the extraordinary result of an eruption in the south of Lanzarote in the 18th century. Multi-colored craters and streams of solidified lava are an extremely beautiful landscape that catches the eye of tourists. In Timanfaya National Park you can witness some of the greatest volcanic activity in the world, both due to the enormous amount of material ejected by the fire and the spectacular six-year duration of the eruption: 1730 – 1736.

Los Hervideros

Los Hervideros – Ranking among Lanzarote’s most unusual geological attractions, Los Hervidores is an extraordinary collage of rocks, caves, and lava tubes that loom over the island’s west coast. Formed during the 18th-century eruptions of the Timanfaya volcanoes, the dramatic coastline was created when hot lava met with cold water.

Mirador del Río

The Mirador del Río viewpoint, located on the Risco de Famara cliff at an altitude of 400 meters, offers a wonderful panoramic view of the island of Lanzarote. There is one of the most characteristic buildings there, invisible from the outside, hidden in the rock. Outside there is a wrought iron sculpture symbolizing water and wind. Inside, visitors can find traditional pottery, numerous sculptures and wide windows providing beautiful views of the island. You must also see the main hall with its vaults and its domes and balconies.

Papagayo Beach

Beach Papagayo is the most famous, paradise beach in Lanzarote. It is located in the southern part of the island. The beach is famous for its volcanoes, beautiful landscapes and hot climate. It is an excellent place for swimming and snorkeling. High transparency makes it easier to observe underwater fauna and flora. It is also a safe environment for children’s play. Tourists are very happy to choose it a place to sunbathe.

The island has about 55 beaches, the best of them are: Papagayo Beach, Playa de Famara, Playa de los Clicos, Playa del Janubio and Playa Mejias

Caldera de Los Cuervos

Caldera de los Cuervos, better known as Volcán del Cuervo, is part of the Parque Natural de los Volcanes. This volcano is very interesting because it is the first volcanic cone formed during the Timanfaya eruption, which took place in 1730-1736 and changed the landscape of Lanzarote, giving it an almost lunar appearance. The Caldera de los Cuervos is therefore not only a classic example of a simple crater, but also a symbol of Lanzarote’s transformation that cannot be missed.

Museo Lagomar

LagOmar is one of Lanzarote’s most unique attractions. It is a museum located inside a volcano in the village of Nazareth, in the Teguise region. LagOmar uses elements that Lanzarote’s volcanic nature has shaped over the centuries in fire in the area, such as rocks, caves and tunnels, to build a work of architecture unique in the world that combines elements of traditional Lanzarote architecture with Arab-influenced elements. LagOmar has hosted various international artists over the years who have held events in this space. In addition to the museum, LagOmar also has a bar and a restaurant.

Arrecife

Arrecife is the capital of Lanzarote, located in the eastern part of the island. It covers an area of 22 square kilometers and is the largest city on the island. It brings together over one third of all Lanzarote inhabitants. The city is bustling with life from dawn to dusk. Here you will find historic tenement houses, castles, churches, exclusive hotels, as well as numerous bars, elegant boutiques, restaurants and discos. A great convenience in sightseeing is that most of the most interesting things to see are located along the coast.

Rancho Texas Lanzarote Park

Rancho Texas Lanzarote Park is a place created for the whole family – Marine Animal Park, with bird, sea lion and lasso shows, a gold mine, pony rides and a water park.

Nightlife

The wonderful island of Lanzarote is not only wonderful nature but also city life, especially nightlife! Mainly concentrated in the resorts of Puerto del Carmen, Arrecife and Playa Blanca. Lanzarote is mainly visited by tourists from England and Germany, so the nightlife starts early and consequently ends quite early, even if the nightly entertainment offer is still very diverse and includes pubs, clubs and discos, which are inhabited by both young people and adults. Lanzarote’s nightclubs are quite close to each other, so it’s very convenient. Interestingly, there are characteristic bars carved in volcanic rock or beach clubs with exclusive decorations.
