Ystad is a city in southern Sweden, the seat of the administrative authorities of the Ystad commune in the region (Swedish: län) of Skåne (in the Skåne region), a port on the Baltic Sea. It has 18,350 inhabitants (as of 2010). For comparison, in 1972 it had 23.9 thousand inhabitants[3]. Ferries to Rønne and Świnoujście depart from the local ferry base. Ystad has been a partner city for Świnoujście since 1990. The medieval (mostly 15th and 16th century) half-timbered buildings constitute the largest complex of this type in the whole of Scandinavia. Valuable architectural monuments also include the brick, Gothic churches of St. Mary and St. Peter. The city has developed a machine, metal and food industry.

- Ales Stenar, Kåseberga (15 km east of Ystad). Stonehenge in Sweden, a 67-meter-high stone ship formed by 59 large sandstone boulders, a megalithic monument from the Nordic Iron Age, around 600 AD. You can reach the site by car or bus from Ystad. There are many information signs at the parking lot. Walk 700 meters up the hill from the parking lot and you will reach the stones. There is no entrance fee to the stones, but a guided tour costs 40 kr per person. The tour is free for children under 17.

- St. Maria, Stortorget 2A. A 13th century church and the oldest preserved building in Ystad, and one of the oldest brick churches in Skåne. From 9:15 pm to 3 am the night watchman blows his horn to reassure residents that all is well.
