The Match Museum (Tändsticksmuseet)

The fact is that Sweden has achieved success in the large match industry and supplies matches to various countries around the world. In 1844, brothers John Edward Lundstrom and Carl Frans Lundstrom in Sweden founded a match factory in Jonkoping, where they produced Lucifer matches. The Lucifer match, quickly and widely used in the early period of the match industry, was convenient because it ignited easily, but at the same time it was dangerous because it ignited easily under the influence of light friction and/or low temperature, as well as the toxicity of yellow phosphorus, which caused terrible workers’ suffering, occupational diseases, and pocket gangrene, which has become a serious social problem.
As a result, the safety regulation based on the separation of chemical components for ignition and combustion obtained a patent and created the basis for conquering the world market.
