Warnemünde lighthouse


Warnemünde Lighthouse is a lighthouse located in Warnemünde, a district of Rostock. A characteristic tourist attraction is the building, which is 36.9 m high. It was commissioned in 1898 and built of white glazed brick. The lighthouse can be seen from almost anywhere in Warnemünde – and from 30 metres up inside the lighthouse you can see almost all of Warnemünde.

St. Mary’s Church in Rostock


The mighty St. Mary’s Church has dominated the city of Rostock for centuries. Its current form is the result of several stages of construction. The astronomical clock from 1472 by Hans Düringer, a watchmaker from Nuremberg, has been operating on its mechanism since its creation. The late Gothic parts include a ring with zodiac signs in the lower part, bas-reliefs of the four wise men of the ancient world, and in the upper part a clock face with moon phases and symbols of the evangelists.

The Kröpeliner Tor is a significant historical landmark in Rostock, built around 1270 in the Gothic style. This gate, with its two floors, was very large for its time and remained one of the most formidable of the city’s gates.

In Rostock, central squares occupy a special place due to the historical development of the city. Today’s city center of Rostock emerged from three parts of the city, the old city, the middle city and the new city, and therefore also has three markets: the old market square in the old city, the new or inner city market in the middle city and the hop market (today University Square) in the new city .
