*St. Michael’s Church (Danish: Sankt Mikkels Kirke), a Protestant church located in the Danish town of Slagelse. A bit of history. Before the current church was built, a Romanesque stone basilica stood on this site, built around 1080 by Bishop Svend Normand. Around 1164, it was given to the Hospitallers by King Valdemar I the Great. In its place, around 1300, a Gothic church was built, which still stands today. At that time, a royal court, the so-called Kongsgård, was located near the church. The church’s size testified to its strategic importance. During renovations between 1873 and 1876, two porches were added to the north and a sacristy to the south. The church was restored again in 1961.
