Devin is a city surrounded by pine and spruce forests.

Devin (Bulgarian: Девин) is a town in Bulgaria, in the Smolyan Oblast, and the administrative seat of the Devin Municipality. According to the Unified System of Population Registration and Administrative Services for the Population, the town had a population of 6,527 on March 15, 2015. The town is located in the Rhodope Mountains, 20 km from the border with Greece. The Devin River flows through the town and flows into the Vycha River a little further on. Devin is surrounded by ancient pine and spruce forests.

  • History. The earliest traces of life near Devin date back to the Bronze Age. At the site of Potreb, there are ruins of a Thracian settlement and a Thracian sanctuary. A Thracian-Roman settlement existed in the 4th century. Two necropolises dating from the 11th and 14th centuries have also been found near the city.
  • The population consists of various Bulgarian ethnic groups and communities – ethnic Bulgarians and Pomaks. There is great religious tolerance among adherents of different religions – Muslims and Christians. The city is home to the Church of St. Ivan Rilski, built in 1936, and a mosque.
  • The city is home to the Bulgarian company Devin, a producer of spring water, a joint-stock company since 1999 with 100% private capital.
