Tromsø is a city on the island of Tromsøya in the northern part of Norway, above the Arctic Circle, on the Norwegian Sea. Despite its location 350 km beyond the Arctic Circle, the climate is not particularly harsh due to the strong influence of the North Atlantic Current. Thanks to this, ocean waters do not freeze and the port in Tromsø can operate all year round.The polar night in Tromsø lasts from November 27 to January 19, the polar day from May 19 to July 27.
Polaria



Polaria is an Arctic Experience Center and Aquarium located in central Tromsø. The building itself is designed to resemble ice floes pushed ashore by the Arctic Ocean. Inside you’ll find a mix of interactive exhibits and aquariums filled with flora and fauna from the region.
Through knowledge-based exhibitions, prepared in collaboration with scientists from Fram – the High North Climate and Environmental Research Center, Polaria reflects some of the research being conducted in the Arctic. Two bearded seals and three harbor seals live in the sea basin. The seals are fed and exercised several times a day to stimulate them both mentally and physically. Sesions Feeding and training take place
daily at 10:30, 12:30 and 15:30.

Arctic Cathedral


The Arctic Cathedral, formally known as Tromsdalen Church or Tromsoysund Church (Tromsdalen kirke). The church is commonly nicknamed the Ishavskatedralen, literally “The Cathedral of the Arctic Sea” or “Arctic Cathedral”. The church was built in 1965 in the Tromsdalen valley and it is a parish church and not, in fact, a cathedral as it is commonly called. The church is part of the Tromsoysund parish in the Tromso arch-deanery in the Diocese of Nord-Halogaland. The groundbreaking of the church was 1 April 1964 and it was completed in 1965. The new church was consecrated on 19 November 1965 by the Bishop Monrad Norderval.
Polar Museum


The Polar Museum preserves and transmits the history of famous explorers, trappers and expeditions. We can learn the stories of adventurers Henry Rudi and Wanna Woldstad, learn about Fridtjof Nansen’s expedition to Fram and discover Roald Amundsen’s attempt to conquer the geographic North Pole.
Troll Museum

Prestvannet


Right in the middle of Tromsø city, you will find Prestvannet . It is the perfect place to spot the Northern Lights in the Arctic night during the winter. Prestvannet is a small lake on the highest point on the central part of the island of Tromsøya in the city of Tromsø. Prestvannet was built up as a reservoir in 1867 and continued in that function until 1921. Today, many locals like to go here to enjoy the beautiful surroundings, walking their dogs or feed the ducks in the lake. During the Northern Light season, Pressvannet is a perfect place to explore the amazing lights on the clear sky during the night.
Ølhallen


Mack’s brewpub Ølhallen opened in 1928 and is the oldest pub in Tromsø. In past as it was known as a place of sanctuary and at the time was teeming with fishermen, farmers, and townspeople.
