TERRA.vita nature park


TERRA.vita, the name of the nature and geopark, can be translated as “life of the earth”. The area includes the northwesternmost foothills of Germany’s low mountain ranges, the Teutoburg Forest and the Wiehengebirge.
Between the heathlands and forested mountain ranges, geological and climatic processes can be observed, springs and rivers, rocks, canyons, terminal moraines and boulder fields. Saurierfährten Barkhausen


In the Jurassic period 100 million years ago, the Osnabrück area was on a coast. The layer of rock on which we find the tracks today was then a sandy beach washed over by waves. A herd of long-necked dinosaurs roamed this muddy plain. There were at least nine animals, some of them very large.
Two predatory dinosaurs also left their three-toed footprints before the sun could dry the whole thing. Fine sand later filled the solidified impressions and buried the entire layer.
Church of St. Peter
